Donelon Urges Long-Term Extension to NFIP to Ensure Louisiana’s Future

Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon is urging the Louisiana Congressional Delegation to continue to push for a long-term funding solution for the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). Last week, President Donald Trump signed a continuing resolution that will avoid another federal shutdown by funding the government, and the NFIP, at current levels until November 21. The resolution includes the NFIP through the same date.

“In lieu of a long-term reauthorization, this latest extension helps Louisiana and other coastal states by protecting this vital program through the majority of the 2019 Atlantic Hurricane season,” said Donelon. “While this extension is needed and appreciated, I will continue to champion the effort along with our federal delegation to ensure that Louisiana homes and businesses can safeguard their investments from flooding events.”

A previous short-term extension was scheduled to expire on September 30.
