Insurance Coverage During a Medical Emergency

Time is critical in a major medical emergency. When a ground ambulance can’t reach a patient, or get there fast enough, an air ambulance is called. Air ambulances most commonly transport patients with traumatic injuries, pregnancy complications, heart attacks, strokes and respiratory diseases. Air ambulances are often equipped with state-of-the-art medical equipment and staffed by paramedics, emergency medical technicians and sometimes doctors and nurses.

Many insurers will pay what they deem reasonable use of an air ambulance; however, sometimes the air ambulance company and the insurer disagree on the cost. Depending on circumstances, the remainder of the bill—which could run in the thousands of dollars—could be your responsibility. Speak to your agent to find out what coverage your policy provides.

Spring Storms Ahead

The spring season is only a few weeks away and with warmer weather comes the chance for severe storms. Before dangerous weather pops up in your neighborhood, review the tips below.

Document Losses. It is important to have an accurate account of all damage for your insurance company to file a claim. Take photos or videos and make a list if the damages and lost items.

Starting a Claim. Contact your agent as soon as possible, most insurance companies have a time requirement for reporting a claim.

Stay alert. It is a good idea to do business with local or trusted companies. Always get more than one bid on work projects.
