Statement From Louisiana Insurance Commissioner Tim Temple on Passing of Former LAHIGA Director Phyllis Perron

I want to express my deepest condolences to family, friends and colleagues of Phyllis Perron following her passing on March 10, and acknowledge the invaluable contributions Phyllis made to our state through her work.

Phyllis was an influential player in Louisiana politics, especially in the insurance arena, for decades. Her contributions span from becoming the executive director of the Louisiana Association of Life Underwriters in 1977, to lobbying for various insurance associations with the formation of Phyllis Perron and Associates in 1984.

One of her greatest contributions was in the creation and leadership of the Louisiana Life and Health Insurance Guaranty Association (LAHIGA), a safety net for the policyholders of insolvent life and health insurers that will protect Louisianans for generations to come.

Phyllis was highly respected by Louisiana policymakers, insurance leaders and the residents she fought to protect. She will be greatly missed.
