LDI Tool Available to Help Former Medicaid Members Shop for Health Coverage After Disenrollment

The Louisiana Department of Health (LDH) has resumed the qualifying process for Medicaid recipients as the federal public health emergency comes to an end. Recipients who do not meet the eligibility requirements will no longer qualify for Medicaid coverage, and LDH estimates up to 350,000 of those Louisiana enrollees could lose coverage over the next year.

Medicaid members who are disenrolled from the program will need to find other coverage from their employer, a Marketplace plan, Medicare or other provider. The Louisiana Department of Insurance has an online tool to help consumers search for insurance agents who can help them find health coverage. To find a list of health insurance agents in their area, consumers should click here and:

• Select “License Information or Location” in the Search Type field,
• Select either “Individual Agent” or “Producer Agency” in the License Type field,
• Select “Accident and Health” in the Line of Authority field, and
• Enter the consumer’s City, State and Zip, then click Search.

LDH sent letters and renewal packets in March to members with outdated or incomplete information to determine their eligibility. If members do not qualify, they will begin to lose Medicaid coverage on July 1, 2023. Members can visit www.ldh.la.gov/myinfo to update their contact information.

If you have Medicaid, it is crucial to verify that the Medicaid office has your current and correct contact information and not just your mailing address. Medicaid will also need your updated cell phone number and email address.

To prepare for renewal, Louisiana Medicaid members can visit mymedicaid.la.gov, call the phone number on their health plan ID card, call Medicaid customer service at 1-888-342-6207, or find their regional Medicaid office at www.ldh.la.gov/medicaidoffices. Navigators for a Healthy Louisiana is also available at 1-800-435-2432 and navigators@swlahec.com to assist Medicaid members and former Medicaid members find health coverage.
